2004年专八真题作文及范文
It was reported in the press some time ago that a few second-and third-year students in a provincial university decided to try their hands at business in order to get prepared for the future. They opened six small shops near their university. Their teachers and classmates had different opinions about this phenomenon. Some thought that the students’ business experience would help them adapt better to society after graduation, while others held a negative view, saying that running shops might occupy too much of the students’ time and energy which should otherwise be devoted to their academic study. Should University Students Go in for Business?
It is reported that an increasing number of college students decided to try their hand at business. As to this phenomenon, people's opinions differ. Some think it is beneficial for the students while others say it may occupy too much time and would exert an pernicious impact on their study. In my opinion, as long as we can strike a balance between doing business and studying, the advantages of the former are obvious.
To start with, it puts what we have learned in our universities into practice, which would help achieve more ideal study results. Doing business is more complicated than we expected. It requires not only the knowledge we have learned in college but also the ability to apply them into practice. If you major in English, then you get a chance to improve your oral English, since you should communicate a lot with foreigners. In addition, you can make use of what you learned in your writing lessons to write business letters, notices, reports and so on. If you are an accounting major, then your ability at numbers will be a great help. We study in the college only with the hope that what we learned can one day be useful in our life. Now if we are provided with the chance to apply them in our business, why should we not have a try?
Secondly, doing business can help develop our social ability. Doing business means dealing with companies. Your personality, credit, and communication skills in particular, matter a lot. The ability to get others to trust you and make them willing to do business with you is crucial. After a lot of practices, surely you will become more out-going and mature. You may learn to get along with all sorts of counterparts and know how to bargain with them. In running your own business, your leadership will be more skillful and the management of your employees would be more and more efficient. All these will be your treasure when you graduate and step into the society.
If properly dealed with, doing business helps improve our study quality rather than put a negative influence on it. When you are engaged with your business, you will find there are a lot of things you are not familiar with. They motivate you to study new knowledge or technologies. As a result, you are more likely to make full use of your study time in college.
Undoubtedly, doing business is full of risk. To cope it well we not only need bravery and creativity but also requires knowledge and wisdom. We university students should study not only from our textbooks or our teachers but also from practice of the society.
